We had an early morning taxi trip from Herndon Virginia to the Crowne Plaza Hamilton Hotel in D.C. Our tour of the White House had been finalised the night before and had been moved forward one day and we had to be at the White House by 9am. Fortunately our room was ready and we had somewhere to leave our bags. We were only allowed our phone and passport and David could take his wallet. It was a pleasant 15 minute walk and because of a few contacts we were fast tracked to the front of the long queue.
After the tour we made our way back to the hotel for a quick coffee and to plan the rest of the day.
We had an early Lunch and then took a leisurely walk back to The White House and Washington Monument.

On our second day in Washington DC we decided to see the sights on foot. The concierge at our hotel recommended that we catch a taxi to Union Square Station and then continue on and walk to the Capitol Building and then down to the monuments and War Memorials.
